2000

I started high school in 2000 and my obsession with Pokemon really took off.

Albums

1 Dashboard Confessional The Swiss Army Romance Fiddler

I made fun of Dashboard Confessional in high school, but this album has become on of my most listened to albums in the years since its release.

2 New Found Glory New Found Glory Drive-Thru

I grouped blink-182 together with blink-182 when this album first came out, but this album is easier to revisit. No misses, all hits.

3 The Aquabats Myths, Legends and Other Amazing Adventures, Vol. 2 Fearless Records

A compilation album of b-sides that somehow contains some of their best songs like Pool Party and Pizza Day.

This is the best Modest Mouse album.

Movies

Rank Movie Title Impression
1 Cast Away

I'm a total sucker for these deserted island stories, probably my favorite genre.

2 Road Trip

This is a terrible movie, that hasn't aged well at all, but teenage me watched it multiple times quoting all the Tom Green scenes.

Wikipedia
3 Memento

I don't think I understood this movie that well when it came out, but it was before Christopher Nolan was allowed too much artistic liberty.

4 Amores Perros

The first film from the Birdman director. I think it was during high school that I started branching out into watching non-English language films.

Video Games

Rank Game Title Developer Impression
1 The Longest Journey Funcom

One of the last "big budget" point and click adventure games before the genre hit a severe decline in prominence for the remainder of the decade, but what a way to go out. I was obsessed with the lore and story of this game, until the thrid game deflated my enthusiam, but not enough to ruin my love of the first entry.

Wikipedia
2 Pokemon Gold / Silver Game Freak

I think I spent the whole summer reading up about this game and downloading the Japanese ROM and applying an English patch just to play through the first few towns. In retrospect there's a lot of design flaws in this game, but it's hard to look past my nostalgia.

Wikipedia
3 Pokemon Stadium Nintendo

Mostly worth it just for the Clefairy mini-game and the ability to play the gameboy game on the TV.

Wikipedia
4 Escape From Monkey Island LucasArts

The transition to 3D was not kind to Monkey Island, but it's not as bad of a game as people make it out to be.

Wikipedia
5 Perfect Dark Rare

It needed an Expansion Pak just to play the single player campaign, but it was worth it. It's not as good as Goldeneye, but it was one of the last first person shooters I enjoyed.
