1989

I think the only memory I have from this year was a roadtrip to my grandparents place in Ontario. I remember it was the first time I got to go out in a motor boat on a lake.

Albums

1989 is also a weird mix of music I liked as a kid and music I got into much later.

Rank Album Artist Title Label Impression
1 Operation Ivy Energy Lookout!

Classic ska punk out of the bay area. It's hard to believe how many legendary songs came out of this album I've heard covered countless times.

2 Garth Brooks Garth Brooks Capitol Nashville

Garth Brooks, one of the best selling artists of the 90's got his debut in the late 80's. He's one of the few country artists I still go back and listen to regularly. Especially this album with The Dance, what a phenomenal song.

3 Various Artists Little Mermaid Soundtrack Walt Disney

I think it's pretty much impossible to avoid Disney growing up. The Little Mermaid marked the beginning of the Disney Renaissance with a great soundtrack with multiple stand out tracks.

My sister and I loved the song One Woman Man so much for some reason. I remember one roadtrip where we listened to it on repeat.

Movies

Rank Movie Title Impression
1 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Indiana Jones is problematic in retrospective, but the introduction of Sean Connery RIP to the series is a great addition. I own the trilogy on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray. Yes, I said trilogy, the fourth film never happened.

2 The Abyss

There's a huge difference between the standard and special editions of this movie. I'm still waiting for the blu-ray release, but James Cameron is too busy making Avatar sequels to be bothered.

5 Gleaming the Cube

6 Back to the Future Part II

I've tried to limit the movies section to just five movies per year, but the 80's were so good I couldn't finish the decade without including this movie. It's darker than the first film, but getting to see the actual future was awesome. The hoverboards we actually got by 2015 were not a real substitute.

My first introduction to the game was from borrowing my friend's SNES and playing Super Mario All-Stars. I don't think I've ever completed this game, maybe I should get around to it now that it's on NES Online.
